Booked appointments can be made directly at reception, online or by calling the main Practice telephone number.
THE ONLINE BOOKING SYSTEM IS FOR ROUTINE APPOINTMENTS ONLY. PLEASE DO NOT USE IT TO BOOK URGENT APPOINTMENTS, eg CHEST PAIN, SHORTNESS OF BREATH, INSTEAD PLEASE CALL 999 OR SEEK URGENT MEDICAL ADVICE.
Appointments are booked in 10 minute slots and to enable the surgeries to run on time, please try to consult your usual doctor (or the same GP for an ongoing problem) if available.
Types of appointment
Ideal for seeing your regular GP for an ongoing problem. This ensures you have good continuity of care.
We have recently changed our appointment system to include telephone triage. If you feel that you need to see or speak to a GP that day, the receptionist will take your phone number and the GP will call you back the same day. The receptionist will also ask you briefly about the nature of the problem - this is so that the GP can prioritise the most urgent phone calls to be done soonest. The GP may be able to advise you over the phone, or they may book you an appointment later that day, or later in the week.
Some problems do not need a face-to-face appointment and can be dealt with by telephone. If you are discussing an ongoing problem please request your usual doctor and advise the receptionist of the reason for this. The receptionists may ask you for more information regarding the problem so that they can book your telephone appointment with the most appropriate doctor or nurse. When your telephone appointment is booked, the receptionist will give you an estimated time window for when the doctor or nurse will call - we are unable to specify an exact time as this varies depending on visit requests and emergency appointments. It is important to keep us updated of your current telephone number.
You may be asked by the receptionist when booking your appointment with the nurse what the appointment is for. This ensures that enough time is allocated for your appointment.
You may be asked to arrange for a blood test. Often this is best done by the Community Phlebotomy Service. The Practice will give you a printed test request sheet and some labels to take to your appointment. These appointments can be booked by calling 0800 092 4020, and you can have your blood test taken at the Community Centre here in the Forum building, at Wythenshawe Hospital, or at Withington Hospital. The results will come back directly to the Practice.
Although we book 10 minute appointment slots, not every problem can be dealt with in this period so there may be times when the GP and nurses surgeries run late. Please be patient - here may be a time when y our appointment takes longer than 10 minutes. If you have been waiting a long time and think you may have been forgotten, please go back to the front desk. The receptionist will let you know why the delay has occured.
Text Message reminder service
If you have a mobile phone, the Practice can send you an appointment reminder by text message. This message will be sent 24 hrs prior to your appointment. Please keep us informed of any changes to your telephone number. If you are unable to attend please text back the word "CANCEL" this will cancel your appointment automatically.
We constantly monitor and audit our appointment system to maximise availability. Unfortunately we continue to have a high non-attendance rate which seriously limits our ability to offer appropriate slots.
Please notify the practice AS SOON AS you are aware that your appointment isno longer convenient. Last minute cancellations will be marked as non-attendence.
All non-attendence is recorded and repeated episodes will trigger correspondence from the Practice. As a last resort, if these are ignored, a patient may be asked to leave the Practice list in fairness to our other patients.
